9minds9works 2008/2009

From September 2008, 9minds presents 9minds9works 2008/2009, monthly play readings showcasing local writing at the Arts Centre.

The new season features some of Australia’s most exciting new and established playwrights (in order of readings): Gareth Ellis, Noëlle Janaczewska, Alex Broun, Jane Harrison, Kevin McGrath, Lally Katz, Ross Mueller, Kit Lazaroo, and Anthony Crowley.

The September reading of Champion Male by Gareth Ellis, and the October reading of The Butcher’s Wife by Noëlle Janaczewska were a great success!  Join us for the November reading.

 

 

9minds9works, introduced in 2006, reflects a commitment by 9minds to support Australian playwriting.  Kill the Wolf by Tim Nolan which premiered at the BlackBox in March 2008, and Ollie and the Minotaur by award winning playwright Duncan Graham which toured Adelaide and Melbourne in April/May 2008, were developed through the 2006/2007 program.

Readings are presented the last weekend of each month.  Seats are limited.  Admission:  $5.00.

Danny and the Deep Blue Sea

Danny and Roberta meet in a deserted Bronx bar, running from their separate demons. Danny may have let his rage kill a man, while Roberta is carrying a horrifying secret that may explode from her chest. The horn of a big ship sounds in the distance - beckoning them towards a journey that this unlikely pair would never contemplate making alone.

Angels with Dirty Faces

After its premiere season at the BlackBox in November 2005, Angels with Dirty Faces by Iresha Herath and Rachel Fitzpatrick returned in February 2007 to the Arts Centre, playing at the George Fairfax Studio. A critical success, seen by over 1,300 people in just 6 performances, the second season was an emphatic hit for 9minds.

Nominated for a Louis Esson Prize for Drama, Angels with Dirty Faces has been accepted for performance at independent theatres in the USA and the UK. 9minds hopes to tour the play in 2009.

Ollie and the Minotaur

In April/May 2008, 9minds associated produced the new Australian work Ollie and the Minotaur from the 9minds9works 2006/2007 season, with Adelaide theatre company floogle.

Kill the Wolf
